Project management ADvising & coaching
Are you a newsroom or editorial project seeking to grow, launch a new initiative, or figure out how to manage a current initiative? My experiences working in local and national newsrooms across the country—combined with my background in project management and production across print and digital newsrooms, documentary film, nonprofits, and other types of editorial projects—provide me with a special intersection of skills. To our work together, I bring not only a focus on finding the right systems for your project, but also a deep understanding of the unique needs of journalists and news organizations. Striking the right balance between organizational strategy and the particular demands of journalism projects is a place where I feel especially equipped, and excited, to help.
project road map design
Sometimes, all you need is help articulating clear goals and making a plan. For those who need guidance in designing a project, I offer specific sessions focused on producing a concrete road map. During our time together, we’ll clarify your mission and the goals that underpin this mission, and we’ll produce an accompanying timeline with milestones and deadlines, a budget, and defined list of deliverables.
research design
Are you a newsroom seeking to design a better research or fact-checking system? Or an unusual research project trying to define its goals and the best approach to meeting them?
I have years of experience as a fact-checker at local and national news organizations; I’ve also trained fact-checkers, and designed research processes for news organizations. Beyond journalistic research experience, I have experience designing and running qualitative research projects—like this one that I led for Hacks/Hackers and CUNY’s Graduate School of Journalism for two years, and for which I managed the interdisciplinary research of dozens of academics, journalists, and technologists to publish white papers on various issues in technology and journalism.
facilitation
If you have a complex meeting you need to run, or a multi-stakeholder project that requires input from a range of people, I’m happy to help develop a plan for these sessions and facilitate them. I have experience facilitating complicated events, conferences, and projects that require consensus among a wide diversity of stakeholders and people.
writing and communication support
Need to distill information about your organization into a report, presentation, or grant application? I have experience in all of the above, and enjoy helping people clarify and effectively communicate the most exciting parts of the projects they’re working on.
ONE-TIME WORKSHOPS
Don’t see a service that’s quite right for you? I also offer custom-designed workshops—on the topics listed above, among others—upon request.
Before we start working together, I recommend that we meet to see if it will be a good fit. Please feel welcome to schedule a free, 30-minute consult below.
